TARGET SPECIES: Pargo, AmberJack, Dorado, Wahoo, Cabrilla, amongst various other reef species. June into July can see most anything coming through the Sea of Cortez, including tuna and marlin. The Dorado hunting is extremely accessible for all skill levels. It’s an absolute riot for those that are green to blue-water spearfishing and getting their bearings with underwater hunting and the gear.
SKILL LEVEL: MUST BE A CERTIFIED FREEDIVER. All levels of spearfisher-people are welcome on this trip and we will cater pangas to skill levels. We strongly recommend taking our Freedive-Harvesting Course prior to this trip to support your experience if you don’t have prior speargun handling experience. Having speargun handling experience will give you more independence on the trip. There will be an in-water guide on each panga to support the groups but being able to manage your own gear efficiently is recommended.
Ideal Comfortable Hunting Depths: 10-15m hunter with more hunting options if you’re hunting actively at 20m+
Hunting grounds: There’s options on offer for all skills levels in blue-water, reef and on the FADs. Open water drifts (Surface to 30m depths, most action in first 15 m) for blue-water species, reef hunting (5m-30m), FAD hunting for Dorado (Surface - 10m).
EQUIPMENT: Participants are responsible for their own equipment or organizing rentals with the resort. For a short trip like this rentals can make alot of sense but if you’re interested in purchasing your own equipment we can get you a gear list and support facilitating that for you.
A few key notes for gear:
Gun size - 110cm - 130cm would be your best all around gun sizes for mix of Reef and blue water on this trip.
2mm-3mm suit is ideal suit thickness. 1.5mm-2mm for those that run hot. 3mm for those that run cold
If this is your first blue-water trip we highly recommend taking a Freedive-Harvesting Course with us to get you familiar some of the equipment we’ll be using
ACCOMODATIONS:
Palapas Ventana will be hosting us for these trips. Palapas Ventana is an Internationally Renowned Spearfishing Resort and Destination located in Baja Sur. This setup allows us to focus on the most important aspects of our trip… DIVING AND SPEARFISHING! Let the resort handle everything else for us.
